Learn how this small business went about positioning itself for growth.
If you’ve ever wondered how Rock’s process works in practice, our brilliant clients at Buffalo Technical Services have given us permission to share their story so far. Bring it on!

It started with a GRIT…
We were first introduced to the company formerly known as Veritas Services UK Ltd in mid-2024...
At the time, & building on their early success, Veritas’ owners – Ryan March & Sean Sweeney - were considering introducing a D2C model to run alongside their sub-contracting model.
As sensible business owners do, they sat down with their accountant, Macleod Accounting, to discuss options but it was clear that they had more questions than answers…
Macleod, who’d recently been through a strategic repositioning themselves with Rock.Partners, immediately recommended their client on to us.
First off, Ryan booked a GRIT Session – which allowed Rock’s founder, Rachel Vigers, to get a feel for where the business was currently & the rationale behind the recent change in approach as well as discuss possible future implications, opportunities & challenges.
As a result of that one session, Veritas asked Rock to custom-scope a FIRM FOUNDATIONS programme in order to get full clarity & definition on their new venture so it could start strong.
Next came the core foundations…
The Discovery phase of the Firm Foundations programme included
a full debrief
representative consultation with management, staff & key partners/customers
desk research & market landscape review
Discovery was followed by a Definition phase including
3 x management work sessions, covering a business & brand SWOT as well as the pros & cons of potential areas of specialisms (in both service & sector), target audience profiles, opportunities for growth & what a rough growth plan might look like
Suffice to say - sleeves were squarely rolled up!
The strategy part of the project concluded with a definition of the core foundations for the business going forward - with final articulated outputs specified by the client. For Veritas, defining their Direction, Connection, Impact & Value meant articulating the company’s ambition & path, values & code of conduct, audience targeting & profiling, impact & USP.
But foundations can look different for different businesses, as Rachel clarifies:
"With Rock, you decide what core foundations look like for your business – we don’t pre-prescribe what the outputs will be. We’ll never force you to “define your purpose”; we don’t wage terminology wars, arguing over the semantics of “vision" vs "mission" or "market positioning” vs “core value proposition” vs “unique selling proposition”. Instead, we work out what's best for your business - nothing more, nothing less."
And on to Alignment Planning...
Once we had complete clarity on where/what/how the business wanted to be, the team were in a better position to decide how the current business needed to change in order to get there.
Next, Rock ran a stand-alone Alignment Planning session, discussing each of the different elements of Commercial, Creative & Cultural workstreams – looking at everything from SOPs & GTM to branding (including the implications of a company name change) & team development.
Taking into account the overall objectives, the stage of the business, preferred time-frames, in-house resources available (skills, capabilities, capacity & budget) & team preferences, a shortlist of priority actions was agreed & a decision made to appoint Rock.Partners to run with the Phase 1 of delivery.
Making it real
Over the next 6 months, Rock.Partners managed the creation & delivery of
a new 1-page business model canvas
an MVP style GTM
a new brand name & trademark registration
a new brand identity, including styling & image sourcing
messaging & copywriting
client case studies
an internal team launch deck
a new sales deck
a new website
socials set-up
as well as ad hoc support throughout.
During the Phase 1 delivery process, we handled the sourcing, briefing & supervision of professional specialists in trademarking registration, graphic design & web design – all to suit the client’s budget & brief. Macleod also stepped back in at this point to handle the company registration name change & associated regulatory paperwork.
And, as a team, we’re not done yet… as Buffalo starts to road test the new business model, embed the brand across the whole business, & further develop & grow, Rock & Macleod will be on hand to provide strategic support as & when required.
Rock’s client-led delivery model lets us custom-create an alignment plan that suits your business, not ours. Plus, we're paid by you - not our partners - so you can be confident that there's no delivery bias.
As Rachel explains:
"Some clients are on top of the commercial aspect whilst others need support with financial modelling or resource allocation; some require a full rebrand whilst others need just a tweak or refinement; some need structured support with HR processes or culture development, others would rather run an internal engagement session to help their team take it on internally - it's really a case of whatever works best. Also, as business needs change over time or with different business stages, Rock's partnership model allows us to flex to fit as needed. We keep the strategy simple & shared so that specialists in each area of delivery can determine how best to deliver on it."
Client Impact
We could list out how we think we made things better but we reckon you’d rather hear what the client said instead…
So, in the words of co-founder & director, Sean Sweeney:

"A year ago, we were struggling to find our way – now we feel confident going to market with a clear path, a strong offer & initial assets that look great.
Rock.Partners’ one-stop approach makes so much sense, especially for business owners who don’t have the time, budget or headspace for dealing with a ton of different consultants. Rock have been a great fit for Buffalo – just like us, they’re resourceful, relatable & you can trust them to get on with it & deliver great results!"
And, Sean's co-founder & company director, Ryan March adds:

"As owners, trying to work ‘in' & ‘on' the business at the same time is difficult so having Rock to guide & support us was a huge force multiplier. And we couldn’t be happier with the output of both projects - the strategy & the initial alignment piece. Externally, all the feedback we’ve had has been absolutely amazing & we are excited about our new direction & proposition. Rock retains credit for that!
But it’s not just about the end result - we’ve also enjoyed the process too. If you work with Rachel, you have to be open to being challenged & held accountable but she knows her stuff and is great to work with. Her biggest strength is that she genuinely cares about the success of our business which is why we will be working with her continuously as we scale & grow. It’s a bit like having the emotional investment of a co-founder without giving away any equity!"
It takes two to tango & any successful project is down as much to the client as the consultant & delivery partners but, thank you, Buffalo – we’ll still take that!
Bring on Buffalo!
Now it’s time to let the business & brand speak for themselves, so go & check them out at www.buffalotechnicalservices.com - the About page explains the rationale behind the Buffalo name:)
And, if your business uses industrial carts, racking or other manual handling equipment (or you know one who does), why not bring Buffalo in for a chat?
Rock.Partners doesn't work with many clients. We're not a high-churn consultancy.
Each Foundations Programme - whether FAST or FIRM - is a deeply intensive 121 experience which is why the dynamic for each client relationship needs to be 'bang on'. Working with Ryan & Sean on Buffalo Technical Services (including meeting their team & being trusted to talk to their partners) has been just that. Bang on. And we're so proud to continue to support this brilliant business as they go on grow strong from rock-solid foundations.
